"The Elephant in the room with Science"
It was three grads of Kensington
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind)
That each by observation
Might satisfy the mind.
The first approached and, touching tusk,
Cried, "There are answers few!
Something so very round and smooth;
I need no further clue.
This wonder of an Elephant
Is like a big test-tube."
The second, grasping papery ear,
Said, "E'en the blindest gimp
Can tell what this resembles most –
I need no further hint!
'Tis clear enough this Elephant
Is just a big blueprint."
The third no sooner had begun
To grasp what she felt able,
When, seizing on the swinging tail,
She settled on her label.
"I see", quoth she,
"The Elephant Is like a power cable".
And so these grads of Kensington
Disputed loud and long,
Each in their own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right
And all were in the wrong.
So oft in scientific wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!
